Bob Boehler Portrait

Back in 2005 my friend Bob hired me to draw his portrait.  If memory serves, he super-imposed a red "NO" symbol over it (like a "NO SMOKING" sign) and put it on a T-Shirt.  I can't remember exactly why he needed a "NO BOB" shirt...  Anyway, it was fun to draw!

I am posting this old work to get it back online after I stopped using Flickr to display my illustration work.

Paul and Alison Wedding Photo Watercolor

Okay, I thought this week I would take a break from the 100 Watercolors challenge to show you guys a commission I painted for some friends of mine this summer.  Those of you who are familiar with my Phase 7 comics will no doubt remember my friend Paul who loaned me his copy of Understanding Comics, thus changing my life forever.  Well, Paul wrote me this summer to see if I could repaint one of his wedding photos as a watercolor, for his wife as an anniversary present.

And here is the watercolor that I made, based on the photo.

Obviously, I pumped up the colors a lot for this, but I also played with reality a bit and turned James's head and got rid of his harness, to make things a bit more picturesque.  This was a lot of fun to work on because Paul and Alison are great friends!

Custom Commissioned Chucks!

Last month, a very nice guy named Chance hired me to draw on two blank pairs of canvas converse with sharpies. One pair would be for himself, and the other was for his son Rabbit.

I'm not sure how it happened, but in art school, I became obsessed with the idea of Dragons Vs. Wolves. So when Chance told me I could draw whatever I wanted on his shoes, that was the first thing that came to mind. And since his son's name is Rabbit, I thought I'd go with a Rabbit theme (of course!)

Dr. C. Everett Koop Tattoo

This week I'm posting a tattoo I recently drew for my friend Ann Gavaghan. It is of Dr. C. Everett Koop, the once SURGEON GENERAL of the United States. (??!) Ann sent me some photo reference, including a picture of her standing with Dr. Koop himself! The tattoo will be inked onto her arm sometime soon (maybe I'll post a follow up picture?)
I gotta say, it was pretty intense drawing something that you knew was going to be on someone's arm for the rest of their life! I'm pleased with how it turned out though, and more importantly, so is ANN! :)
